Here's what's bothering me

You're probably one of the very few 'conservatives' left out here. I appreciate the simple and grounded takes. We're long past most of this, though, as you're finding out. On a later point, even if women could achieve what men could, would you want them to? Hard work and quality traits are a myth. A kiddy diddler could be one of the smartest and hardest workers around but that means nothing - we're not letting them teach kids. We get the results of what we believe in and pursue.

Sounds like you are stuck between the "working man" and the "enterprenuer" mentality.
Oprah Winfrey is a successful woman who doesn't owe Hawaiians a damn thing. She was proactive to hire a private fire fighter squad.
Half the people are dumber than average and will attempt to rob the successful to make their lives easier. Do not pity them.

There are a lot of things that are beyond our control. Develop a sense of humor for when things that are avoidable, get run into like a car smacking wall, head on.
